I am a Consultant General, Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary (HPB) and Hernia Surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary and Director of The Gallstone Clinic and Manchester Hernia at Spire Manchester Hospital.

I am very honoured to be the President of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI), the largest Surgical Association in the UK, representing all General Surgical Specialties. As one of the leading surgeons in the country, it is my job to ensure the highest quality of care and attention to all my patients and set the highest standards of surgical practice. My private rooms at Spire Manchester Hospital are part of a state-of-the-art private hospital with a Critical Care Unit for the higher risk patients to ensure their safety and provide a rapid response to any medical emergency. I provide elective and emergency general surgery as well as being part of the regional HPB unit in Manchester specialising in the investigation and management of gallstones, gallbladder problems and pancreatitis. I also provide advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) and robotic hernia surgery and teach laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery at International Surgical conferences. I have treated many elite sportsmen with hernias, from Cricketers, Rugby players and Olympic athletes, with excellent outcomes and patient feedback.

I have a special interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery of the gallbladder and bile duct, open and laparoscopic hernia surgery, investigation and management of abdominal pain and pancreas disorders. I am an Expert Reviewer for BUPA for Gallstones, Gallbladder Removal, Abdominal Hernias, Pancreatic Cancer, Abdominal pain and Adhesions. I am also the Expert Reviewer for the British Medical Journal (BMJ) Best Practice for Gallstones, Acute Cholecystitis and Acute Cholangitis. Out of the workplace I enjoy cooking, travel, fine wine and racket sports. I have recently rekindled my enjoyment of golf and hope to improve my handicap.
